How to get vaccinated

Everyone in Greenland is offered free vaccination.

The vaccination can be divided into three stages:

  1. You are offered vaccination
  2. You get vaccinated
    • You will be given a date and time when you are to go to the vaccination centre to get vaccinated or you can go to the vaccination centre on the day that your vaccination age group is scheduled to attend.
    • The vaccination will be injected into the muscle between your shoulder and upper arm. Healthcare personnel will administer the vaccination. There will always be a doctor present who has the overall responsibility for the vaccinations.
    • After the vaccination, you must wait in the nearby observation area for at least 15 minutes, so that healthcare personnel can help you should you experience an allergic reaction.
    • With the first vaccine dose, you will either receive information about when you will be summoned to receive the second vaccine dose, or you can go to vaccination centre on the day that your vaccination age group is scheduled to receive the second dose of the vaccine.
  3. The vaccine’s effect
    • Depending on the specific vaccine, the vaccine will take full effect 7–15 days after the second dose.

It is recommended that everyone takes the free vaccine against COVID-19 – for their own sake and for the sake of everyone else. Because managing the vaccinations require extensive logistics and administration, including the storage of the vaccines under special conditions, and because of the recruitment and training of health care personnel, vaccinations are only offered on specific dates in each town or settlement.

If you were prevented from reaching the vaccination centre to get vaccinated, you can get vaccinated when there are vaccinations in your town or settlement again. If the vaccinations in your town or settlement are finished, you can contact your local health centre to learn where there will be follow-up vaccinations.

You may have the opportunity to get vaccinated in another town or settlement if you are in the particular town or settlement on the day that your vaccination age group is scheduled to receive the vaccine.
